Dutch Health ministry invests 20 million euros in ehealth for smb

Dutch minister Edith Schippers of the Public Health ministry has allocated 20 million euros over the next four years to help promote ehealth initiatives. Schippers announced the campaign called FastTrack eHealth Initiative during the opening of the Dutch eHealth Week in Amsterdam.

The combined public and private initiative is intended to support and guide small and medium businesses in scaling up good e-healt initiatives. The aim is to get promising innovations to the patient more quickly, says Schippers. In the coming months the initiative will be fleshed out and finalised, in October at the latest.

Among the stakeholders working together within the initiative are financial institutions, pension funds, investors and insurance companies. The ministry of Economic Affairs will also cooperate closely, seeking active participation of the StartupDelta program.

Two years ago Schippers believed the Netherlands to be lagging in the adoption of ehealth applications and systems.  Last year though, the minister said she expects ehealth to be used as a matter of course in 2016.
