Toshiba medical expands Aplio i-series with MSK imaging

Toshiba Medical has expanded it’s range of diagnostic medical imaging solutions – including Ultrasound, CT, X-Ray, and MR – by adding the possibility of musculoskeletal (MSK) diagnoses to the premium AplioTM i-series ultrasound platform.

Toshiba Medical released three new ultrasounds in the Aplio i-series, the Aplio i700, Aplio i800, and Aplio i900. The company claims the new devices provide superior imaging, including deep and hard to penetrate regions such as the shoulder.

The Aplio i-series’ powerful performance expands the utility of ultrasound for MSK imaging with enhanced resolution and penetration, and innovative tools to enhance clinical workflow, according to a press release from Toshiba medical. The company is a part of the Canon Group since December 2016.

New features

The company’s “iBeam” technology is supposed to provide greater efficiency to the soundwaves, letting them penetrate deeper without losing as much definition as in previous systems. There are other technologies, such as Intelligent Dynamic Micro-Slice that also work to improve the quality of the image in a variety of clinical situations.

The iSense design has been added to provide intuitive ergonomics to boost productivity for both daily routine and complex exams. The systems offers an image-guided user interface, which visually guides the clinician through the exam to simplify system operation and help improve efficiency. To make ultrasound exams faster, the systems feature touch control screens and real-time Quick Scan, which makes automatic image adjustments without pushing a button.

“With the Aplio i-series, our customers have access to the high-quality imaging they rely on for confident diagnoses without sacrificing clinical efficiency or patient safety,” said Dan Skyba, director, Ultrasound Business Unit, Toshiba America Medical Systems, Inc. “By combining excellent image quality with brand new controls and ergonomic features in a real-time workflow, the Aplio i-series systems make ultrasound the go-to solution for musculoskeletal imaging, as well as for a wider array of imaging needs.”

Toshiba Medical has showcased the Aplio i-series at this year’s Society of Skeletal Radiology (SSR) 2017 annual meeting in Santa Barbara, Calif., March 19 – 22, 2017.
