With the new collaboration between AGFA Healthcare and Alliance Medical, both parties want to transform healthcare in Europe and the United Kingdom with the help of cloud technology. AGFA’s ‘Enterprise Imaging’ uses the cloud services of Amazon Web Services (AWS). Through the collaboration, Alliance Medical gains access to the security, reliability and scalability of the public cloud. The two companies want to bring an innovative cloud solution to the British and European healthcare sector with the aim of making diagnoses more efficient and accurate.

“By using the power of AWS cloud services, AGFA and Alliance Medical can completely transform diagnostic imaging. They can thus make the most of security, reliability, scalability and cutting-edge technologies such as AI and advanced data analysis,” says Barbara Baeyens, Head of Public Sector Belgium & Luxembourg at AWS.

Benefits of the cloud solution

AGFA Healthcare and Alliance Medical state that the collaboration marks a major step forward in healthcare innovation in the United Kingdom and Europe. The cloud solution from both parties and AWS offers the following benefits:

- Clinicians and radiologists have real-time access to medical images from any location, with advanced tools for diagnosis, collaboration and workflow optimization.
- Integrated AI and visualization tools for complex molecular imaging.
- Collaboration tools for better task allocation, reporting and collaboration between healthcare providers.

Easy and efficient

The solution is complemented by two innovative platforms for referrals and patient administration and enables clinicians and radiologists to view radiological images easily and efficiently, improving diagnostic accuracy and overall patient care. The project focuses primarily on optimizing patient services.

The parties expect the implementation to start later this year. A phased approach will be chosen to ensure a smooth transition across all Imaging services at 120 sites. This includes all Alliance Medical PET CT sites in the UK, fixed sites, mobile units and community diagnostic centers, which collectively perform more than 400,000 annual examinations. With this cloud-driven approach, AGFA HealthCare and Alliance Medical are taking a crucial step in the digital transformation of healthcare in the UK and Europe.

Philips and AWS

Earlier this year, Philips and Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced that the two parties will be working extensively together to address the growing need for secure, scalable digital pathology solutions in the cloud.

The aim of this collaboration is to advance digital pathology, including by ensuring efficient storage, management and analysis of the growing volumes of digital pathology data. In addition, Philips and AWS aim to enable pathology laboratories to optimize workflow efficiency and facilitate collaboration between specialists.
