Het menselijk lichaam produceert elke dag een enorme hoeveelheid data. De medische wetenschap staat pas aan het begin van het in kaart brengen van de impact van allerlei lichaamsactiviteiten zoals temperatuur, zweten en de vele andere bronnen van data in het menselijk lichaam. Wearables zijn een manier bij uitstek om al deze data verzamelen. Wearables hebben een grote belofte in het bijdragen aan zorg voor patiënten of mensen met chronische aandoeningen zoals diabetes. Zo kunnen betrokken medici direct gealarmeerd worden, ook als een patiënt thuis dit zelf niet kan. Door live informatie te krijgen over bijvoorbeeld bloeddruk of bloedsuikerspiegel kan een arts direct de juiste behandeling opzetten of starten. Belangrijk is wel dat de gegevens klinisch betrouwbaar zijn.
